Ancient necropolis, museums and hill towns. Between mountain and sea, Abruzzo offers visitors a rich selection of cultural visits. From art, culture, local crafts, food, ancient monuments. Among the most important are Santa Maria di Collemaggio, near L’Aquila, and the Archeological Museum of Chieti, and the town of Rocca Calascio.
Medieval Hill Towns
Abruzzo boasts eight of the official most beautiful towns in Italy: Anversa degli Abruzzi, Guardiagrele, Introdacqua, Pacento, Pettrorano sul Gizio, Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Scanno. These fascinating historic towns with their alleyways and tiny streets seem to belong to another time.
Museums.
The rich range of Abruzzo’s museums tell the story of the region from its pre-history and medieval heritage, to agricultural history and art. The most important are in Chieti (The National Archeological Museum), Pescara (birthplace museum of Gabriele D'Annunzio) and Civico Musuem "Basilio Cascella".
